Sony’s tiny living-room console could be making a comeback—at least if a new rumor is accurate. A fresh leak claims Sony may be considering reviving PlayStation TV alongside an upcoming PlayStation handheld, sparking plenty of curiosity among fans who remember the original device.
The first PlayStation TV launched in 2013 (also known as the PlayStation Vita TV in some regions) and was discontinued in 2015. The concept was simple but appealing: a compact micro-console that plugged into a TV or monitor and let players enjoy PSP games and a selection of PS Vita titles on the big screen. It also supported Remote Play with PS4, and it offered access to game streaming through Sony’s former streaming service at the time. Despite its clever idea and small footprint, the hardware didn’t last long on the market.
Now, an unconfirmed post from an account on X suggests Sony might be bringing back PlayStation TV in some form alongside the handheld it’s reportedly working on. The leak doesn’t include specifications, release timing, or even a clear explanation of what “bringing it back” means—so for now it’s more of a conversation starter than a concrete reveal.
That uncertainty is why speculation is running in multiple directions. One possibility is that a new PlayStation TV would be a modern version of the original concept: a lightweight, TV-focused PlayStation device built around the same core technology as Sony’s next handheld. The original PlayStation TV essentially carried the “insides” of a Vita, so a refreshed model could theoretically mirror the handheld’s architecture and act as a companion system for TV play.
Another possibility is that Sony may revive the PlayStation TV name without releasing a standalone box at all. Reports about a future PlayStation handheld have frequently mentioned a docked, TV-style mode similar to how hybrid consoles work. If that’s the direction Sony takes, “PlayStation TV” could return as branding tied to the handheld’s dock, its TV output features, or an ecosystem function designed to move gameplay between handheld and television more seamlessly.
For now, none of this is confirmed. There’s no official announcement from Sony, no product images, and no firm details beyond the initial rumor. Until more reliable evidence appears, it’s best to treat the idea of PlayStation TV returning as an interesting possibility—not a guaranteed new PlayStation device.
