The whispers surrounding the anticipated Sony Xperia 1 VII are building up, although nothing official has made its way to the public just yet. The tech community is buzzing with speculation about its potential features, particularly its camera system and battery design, as well as which other Xperia models might be released alongside it in 2025. While these juicy tidbits are largely based on sketchy leaks, we have one solid piece of information: Sony Mobile will not be exhibiting at MWC 2025.
The Mobile World Congress, held in Barcelona, will see participation from Sony Semiconductor Israel and Sony Semiconductor Solutions. In stark contrast, Samsung Electronics will have a significant presence with five stands, or ten if you include associated subsidiaries, and Xiaomi will have three. Yet, Sony Mobile, with its curious absence, indicates that the Xperia 1 VII won’t be unveiled at this high-profile event.
Sony has been absent from MWC for several years now. There was hopeful chatter about a return in 2024 for the launch of the Xperia 1 VI, but that did not materialize. It’s a notable shift from when the first Xperia 1 dazzled attendees at MWC 2019. The subsequent Xperia 1 II was expected to launch at MWC 2020, but the pandemic led to the event’s cancellation. Since then, Sony has opted for more intimate, perhaps understated launch events for its Xperia line.
Patience might be rewarded around May if Sony adheres to its recent pattern. Fans are keeping their fingers crossed for a teaser or an official launch video of the Xperia 1 VII at that time. The anticipation is palpable, as Sony enthusiasts eagerly wait to see what innovative features the flagship phone might present.
