Sonos, known for its stellar audio products, is reportedly gearing up to shake up the headphone market with plans for a new high-end pair. This comes after the lukewarm performance of their inaugural headphones, the Sonos Ace. Despite being praised for quality, the Ace has struggled to hit expected sales numbers, likely due to stiff competition and a price tag that doesn’t quite align with market expectations.
Originally launched at $449, the Sonos Ace hasn’t captured the audience Sonos anticipated, selling only around 20,000 units last month. This made the company reconsider its ambitious production goals, reducing the forecast from a million units annually to just 100,000. The price, it seems, has been a sticking point, especially when noted competitors offer similar products at a lower cost.
To counteract this, Sonos is reportedly strategizing the introduction of an even more advanced pair of headphones under the internal codename “Roundhouse.” Although details are still under wraps, this venture is set on offering top-notch audio experiences at roughly $450. Furthermore, in a bid to spark interest in the current model, a substantial price cut for the Ace could bring it down to $399, making it more attractive for consumers looking for premium sound without breaking the bank.
As the holiday season approaches, there is anticipation that such a price adjustment could boost Ace’s sales, providing an opportunity for Sonos enthusiasts and new customers to experience the brand’s signature sound quality without the hefty price tag.
Meanwhile, Sonos continues to expand its product line, recently launching the Arc Ultra soundbar and Sub 4 wireless subwoofer, available for pre-order now and shipping at the end of the month. This demonstrates the brand’s commitment to innovation and maintaining its reputation in the audio equipment arena.
With these strategic moves, Sonos seems poised to strengthen its position and regain momentum in the headphone market, offering consumers products that blend cutting-edge tech with more accessible pricing.
