Qualcomm has recently announced the upcoming Snapdragon Summit, set to begin on September 23. This event is eagerly anticipated as it will showcase the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2, the direct successor to the Snapdragon 8 Elite. However, there’s still no update on the Snapdragon X2 Elite, poised to replace the Snapdragon X Elite in Windows-powered devices.
Rumors suggest that Qualcomm is actively testing the Snapdragon X2 Elite with a robust 64GB RAM configuration. This could be the premium choice for the 18-core version of the X2 Elite. The chip, identified as ‘SC8480XP,’ seems to mark Qualcomm’s ambition to make a strong impact in the high-end market, as mentioned by industry insider Roland Quandt.
Previously, it was noted that the Snapdragon X2 Elite might employ a System-in-Package (SiP) setup. Such a configuration was said to integrate 48GB RAM and a 1TB SSD directly onto the CPU package, rather than being separate components. This design is expected to enhance performance and thermal efficiency, although it might introduce manufacturing challenges and eliminate user upgrade options.
As of now, there’s no confirmation on whether the Snapdragon X2 Elite will be unveiled at the upcoming summit. Enthusiasts and industry watchers will have to wait a bit longer to catch a glimpse of this high-performance processing unit later in the year.
