Qualcomm is making waves in the tech world with its latest Snapdragon X Elite and 2nd Gen Oryon CPUs, showcasing impressive benchmarks that outpace those of Intel and AMD. The company’s recent presentation highlighted the Snapdragon X Elite laptop system-on-chip (SoC), which appears to outshine Intel’s Lunar Lake and AMD’s Strix Point processors. However, the data presented seems to come with some inconsistencies.
Qualcomm didn’t hold back in its comparison, particularly taking aim at Intel’s Core Ultra 200V “Lunar Lake.” The chipmaker from San Diego highlighted that their Snapdragon platform was not given equal footing in Intel’s advertising for Lunar Lake benchmarks. Qualcomm presented their findings, showing their Snapdragon X1E-84-100 outperforming Intel’s mid-tier Core Ultra 7 256V, claiming a 10% lead in Geekbench single-core tests and a staggering 52% in multi-core assessments.
It’s important to consider that Qualcomm’s chip boasts twelve Oryon cores compared to Intel’s eight-core configuration, which may affect the fairness of this comparison. Nevertheless, Qualcomm asserts that their Snapdragon unit can outpace Intel’s Core Ultra 9 288V in multi-core tests, using benchmarks from reputable sources to back their claims, even admitting to not having access to Intel’s chip for a direct comparison.
Specifically, in the Cinebench R24 test, Snapdragon X1E-84-100 edged out its Intel rival by a slim margin, yet made a bigger impression with a 44% lead in Geekbench 6’s multi-core benchmark. Beyond raw performance, Qualcomm proudly states its leadership in power efficiency as well.
The Snapdragon Summit 2024 brought more to the table, with Qualcomm releasing further performance benchmarks. They claim:
– A 12% faster CPU performance compared to AMD’s Ryzen AI 9 at the same power level, with a 43% power advantage.
– A 10% faster CPU performance than Intel’s Core Ultra 7, with 38% more power.
The company conducted these benchmarks using Geekbench, focusing mainly on single-core results. In tests without being plugged in, Qualcomm’s “Unplugged” performance showed Intel and AMD chips lagged behind significantly, while the Snapdragon X Elite maintained top performance.
Alongside these developments, Qualcomm introduced its 2nd Gen Oryon CPU, first making its way into smartphones before migrating to laptops. This new processor promises an incredible performance leap, up to 134% better than Intel’s Lunar Lake SoCs and up to 62% faster performance over Intel’s Core Ultra 7 Series.
Qualcomm is setting the stage for an exciting year, as these 2nd Gen Oryon cores are projected to be integrated into laptops by mid-2024. Keep an eye out for further advancements as Qualcomm continues to push the boundaries in CPU performance and efficiency.
