Qualcomm is set to shake up the mobile industry once again with a major rebranding of its flagship processors, reminiscent of the shift that occurred three years ago when the Snapdragon “898” transformed into the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. The talk of the tech town is that Xiaomi’s upcoming 15 and 15 Pro models will be the first Android smartphones to benefit from the newly christened Snapdragon 8 Elite, rather than the previously anticipated 8 Gen 4.
This new naming strategy could be a move to align the mobile processors with Qualcomm’s top-tier PC chip, the X Elite. If true, this renaming could lead to other intriguing changes, such as the introduction of a Snapdragon 8 Plus, potentially replacing the current 8s Gen 3 sub-flagship processors. However, there is still speculation about the future of the 7 series under this revamped system.
The rumors are based on a poster reportedly uncovered by SmartPrix, suggesting that Xiaomi is preparing for a name-change coinciding with the launch of the 14-series’ successors on October 23, 2024. This development also ties into a cryptic two-word post (“Snapdragon Elite”) from renowned leaker Digital Chat Station, adding more weight to the speculation.
The Nubia Z60 Ultra Leading Edition could possibly be one of the last flagships to carry the 8 Gen n moniker. Regardless, this rebranding signals new and exciting shifts in the mobile processor landscape, promising enhanced performance and a fresh identity for Qualcomm’s flagship series.
