Qualcomm is gearing up for the upcoming announcement of its flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 SoC on September 23. Although initial samples showcased impressive performance with cores exceeding 5.00GHz, the final version has been slightly scaled back. Nevertheless, a tipster has revealed that the CPU and GPU clock speeds still surpass those of the Snapdragon 8 Elite, resulting in AnTuTu benchmark results nearly 50% higher than the current leaders.
The performance cores of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 are expected to operate at 4.60GHz, a modest bump from the Snapdragon 8 Elite’s 4.32GHz. The new chip continues the same ‘2 + 6’ cluster design but benefits from Qualcomm’s shift to TSMC’s advanced third-generation 3nm process, known as ‘N3P.’ This transition allows for more flexibility to achieve higher frequencies. According to Digital Chat Station on Weibo, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2’s performance cores hit 4.60GHz, and the Adreno 840 GPU reaches 1.20GHz, compared to the Adreno 830’s 1.10GHz frequency.
Looking ahead, there’s speculation that Qualcomm might release a ‘Leading Edition’ of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 next year, which could feature even faster CPU and GPU clock speeds, boosting single-core and multi-core performance. By 2025, Qualcomm’s flagship SoC might be the fastest smartphone silicon available, especially as Apple reportedly shifts its focus toward power efficiency with the A19 and A19 Pro slated for release later this year.
Updated AnTuTu scores shared by the tipster indicate that the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 now reaches a remarkable 4 million points. Previously, it was reported at 3.8 million, but this latest result is over 49% faster than the top-ranked iQOO 13, which scored 2,671,305 points.
Given these impressive specs, it’s anticipated that the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 could easily exceed 10,000 points on Geekbench 6’s multi-core score. However, we’ll have to wait for further leaks in the coming weeks to confirm these numbers before Qualcomm’s official announcement of the chipset.
