Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2: Set for September Debut; Xiaomi to Lead the Flagship Charge

Qualcomm seems to be fast-tracking the launch of its upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2, with buzz suggesting an earlier release than its predecessor. While the Snapdragon 8 Elite debuted in late October, its successor might make its grand entry in September. This shift hints at an earlier Snapdragon Summit, potentially giving the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 a head start over the Dimensity 9500.

Both the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 and Dimensity 9500 will reportedly be built using TSMC’s advanced third-generation 3nm process. Interestingly, the Dimensity 9400 previously launched just before the Snapdragon 8 Elite, making this year’s timing even more intriguing. According to insights from Weibo’s Digital Chat Station, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 is slated for a September announcement, with flagship smartphones possibly hitting the market by October.

Xiaomi, a key Qualcomm partner, is expected to unveil its new lineup of Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 devices during the Snapdragon Summit. It seems likely that Xiaomi and other regional partners will keep tradition alive by launching their devices in tandem with Qualcomm’s announcement. Although the reason behind Qualcomm’s accelerated release remains unspecified, it might be an attempt to capture greater attention and outpace the Dimensity 9500.

While specific details are sparse, previous reports hint that the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 will likely feature upgraded ‘Pegasus’ cores, reaching up to 5.00GHz, 32MB of L2 cache, and support for LPDDR6 RAM along with a new Adreno 840 GPU. Despite maintaining the ‘2 + 6’ CPU cluster configuration, enhancements could push its AnTuTu score to an impressive 3.8 million, a 40% jump from the Snapdragon 8 Elite’s best.

As we edge closer to September, more details are bound to surface. Stay connected for the latest updates on this upcoming powerhouse chipset.
