Snap Secures Saturn: Revolutionizing Social Calendars for Students

Snap has recently acquired Saturn, an innovative calendar app designed to help students manage and share their school schedules. Although the financial details remain undisclosed, the acquisition means Saturn will continue to function independently. The move brings almost the entire Saturn team, nearly 30 full-time employees, into the Snap family.

Saturn, established in 2018, revolutionized the traditional calendar by integrating a social aspect. It allows students in high school and college to easily connect with classmates, see each other’s class schedules, and coordinate plans without the hassle of exchanging numerous schedule images.

This collaboration will enhance Snapchat’s features with Saturn’s unique calendaring expertise. While specific plans weren’t revealed, Snap is eager to integrate these capabilities in fresh and creative ways.

Saturn’s success has been notable, with its presence in a large number of schools and 80% of U.S. high schools reportedly supporting the app. By transforming scheduling into an engaging experience, Saturn has made significant strides in fostering real-world interactions, an endeavor that Snap is enthusiastic to support.

In 2021, Saturn secured $44 million in a funding round led by major investors including General Catalyst, Insight Partners, and Coatue, with contributions from notable figures such as Jeff Bezos, Marc Benioff, and others. This partnership with Snap promises to bring enhanced capabilities and reach to both companies in their mission to connect students in new and exciting ways.
