SK hynix’s AI Memory Business Heats Up as Second-Biggest Customer Nearly Matches Nvidia

SK hynix is seeing explosive momentum in the artificial intelligence hardware market, with demand for its high-bandwidth memory continuing to reshape its revenue structure. In the first half of 2026, the company’s second-largest customer generated KRW 17.19 trillion, or about US$12.4 billion, in sales, coming extremely close to the KRW 17.61 trillion contributed by its largest customer.

That narrow gap highlights just how quickly the AI semiconductor supply chain is expanding. Nvidia remains a major force behind demand for SK hynix’s advanced memory products, especially as platforms such as the GB300 rely on cutting-edge HBM3E technology to deliver the performance needed for next-generation AI training and inference workloads.

HBM, or high-bandwidth memory, has become one of the most important components in modern AI accelerators. Unlike traditional memory, HBM is designed to deliver massive data throughput while keeping power consumption under control. This makes it essential for data centers running large language models, generative AI applications, and other compute-heavy workloads.

SK hynix has been one of the strongest players in this fast-growing segment. Its HBM3E products are widely viewed as a key part of the AI hardware boom, helping the company secure massive orders from leading chip and cloud computing customers. The fact that its second-largest customer is now nearly on par with its biggest one suggests that demand is no longer concentrated around a single buyer.

For SK hynix, this is an important development. A broader customer base can help reduce reliance on one dominant client while creating more stable long-term growth. At the same time, the figures show that competition for advanced AI memory remains intense, with major technology companies racing to secure enough supply for upcoming AI systems.

The numbers also reflect the rising value of memory in the AI era. In the past, memory chips were often seen as a cyclical business, with pricing and demand swinging sharply depending on market conditions. But the rapid adoption of AI servers has changed the picture. High-performance memory is now a strategic component, and suppliers capable of producing it at scale are benefiting from stronger pricing power and deeper partnerships with major chipmakers.

The near tie between SK hynix’s top two customers also points to the scale of investment happening across the industry. AI infrastructure spending continues to accelerate, and companies building advanced processors, server platforms, and cloud systems are competing aggressively for limited HBM supply.

As Nvidia’s GB300 platform and other AI systems push performance requirements higher, demand for HBM3E and future HBM generations is expected to remain strong. SK hynix is likely to stay at the center of that growth, especially if it continues to lead in high-performance memory production and supply capacity.

With its second-largest customer closing in on Nvidia-level spending, SK hynix’s first-half 2026 results show a clear trend: AI memory is becoming one of the most valuable battlegrounds in the semiconductor industry. The company’s ability to meet surging demand could play a major role in shaping the next phase of AI hardware development.
