Serenity Forge to Publish Sister Other Paranoia, a Dark Visual Novel From the Creators Behind NEEDY GIRL OVERDOSE
Serenity Forge has announced that it will publish Sister Other Paranoia, a dark psychological visual novel from HazeDenki, the team known for NEEDY GIRL OVERDOSE. The game is currently in development for Windows PC and is planned for release in August 2026. It will support Japanese, English, and Chinese at launch.
Sister Other Paranoia follows a deeply isolated light novel writer whose overwhelming sensitivity to other people’s emotions turns into something far more dangerous: the ability to read minds. What begins as an unwanted gift quickly becomes a curse, dragging him further away from society and deeper into paranoia, resentment, and despair.
At the center of the story is the protagonist’s relationship with his younger sister. She is gifted, lonely, and seemingly the only person who still offers him comfort. As the world outside becomes increasingly unbearable, the siblings cling to each other for emotional survival, forming a bond that is tender, suffocating, and unhealthy all at once.
The story opens with a haunting exchange:
“Onii-chan, you really are a lonely person.”
“Did you lose faith in me?”
“No. I love you, onii-chan.”
Unable to tolerate the cruelty, jealousy, and ugliness he sees in others, the protagonist shuts himself away from the world. After submitting a light novel, he unexpectedly wins a newcomer’s award. Instead of bringing him joy or validation, success only exposes him to more envy, judgment, and emotional wounds. Even the people around him hurt him without realizing it, feeding his distrust and pushing him closer to the edge.
Sister Other Paranoia presents itself as an old-school, classic visual novel experience. The text fills the screen, placing the focus firmly on reading, atmosphere, and emotional immersion. Players can progress through the story at their own pace, hide the text to appreciate the artwork, and sink into the game’s bleak, intimate world.
The gameplay centers on experiencing the protagonist’s suffocating daily life: enduring conflict with others, returning home to the fragile comfort of his sister, and facing the disturbing consequences of his mind-reading power. As tensions rise, the protagonist can uncover the hidden insecurities and poisonous thoughts of the people around him. In his darkest moments, he may use that knowledge to psychologically destroy them and push them toward self-destruction.
The game openly asks uncomfortable questions. If the protagonist never harms anyone with his own hands, is he still guilty? Are the people around him truly victims, or are they part of the cruel society that pushed him into isolation? What does happiness mean to someone who has lost faith in the world? And what kind of future can exist for two people trapped in a spiral of dependence, fear, and love?
With its heavy themes, literary tone, and emotionally intense premise, Sister Other Paranoia looks set to appeal to fans of psychological horror, dark visual novels, character-driven storytelling, and unsettling narratives about isolation and obsession.
The creative team includes scenario writer and director nyalra, artwork by Ohisashiburi, music by Aiobahn +81, UI design by Maruino, and programming by HAYAO.
Sister Other Paranoia is scheduled to launch for Windows PC in August 2026 with Japanese, English, and Chinese language support.
