Sharp is preparing to bring a new ultra-light VR option to market with the Xrostella VR1, a pair of virtual reality glasses designed for both PC and smartphone use. A crowdfunding campaign on Green Funding is scheduled for November 2025, signaling an upcoming push to make VR more comfortable, portable, and accessible.
At just 198 grams (6.98 oz), the Xrostella VR1 is dramatically lighter than many mainstream headsets. The glasses-style design and pancake lenses aim to reduce bulk and pressure on the face, making it easier to put on, take off, and wear for longer sessions. The compact frame measures 160.7 x 70.6 x 106 mm (6.3 x 2.8 x 4.2 in.), reinforcing its travel-friendly appeal.
Despite the slim form factor, the visuals target clarity and smoothness. Each eye gets a 2,160 x 2,160 LCD panel running at 90 Hz, coupled with a 90-degree field of view. For comfort and optical precision, the headset includes adjustable interpupillary distance from 58 to 71 mm. There’s also built-in diopter adjustment from 0D to -9.0D, allowing many nearsighted users to dial in sharp focus without wearing prescription glasses.
Tracking and passthrough are handled by an onboard sensor array tailored for everyday usability. Two six-degrees-of-freedom (6DoF) tracking cameras monitor head motion and help map the virtual space, while a color camera provides a window to the real world for situational awareness and mixed-reality use cases. Two handheld controllers are included to capture natural hand movements and inputs. Rounding out the experience, integrated speakers and a microphone support voice chat and in-world conversations.
