Seiko Expands Prospex Speedtimer Lineup with Three New Solar V192 Chronographs

Seiko is expanding its Prospex Speedtimer lineup for 2026 with three fresh solar-powered chronographs: the SSC961, SSC963, and SSC965. Rather than being limited-edition drops that disappear fast, these watches are staying put as regular, non-limited models in Seiko’s permanent catalog—good news for anyone who prefers to buy on their own timeline.

All three new Speedtimer references share the same compact, wearable proportions that many enthusiasts look for in a modern chronograph. Each one comes in a 39 mm stainless steel case with a 13.3 mm thickness and a 45.5 mm lug-to-lug length, paired with a matching stainless steel bracelet. The result is a classic sports-chronograph profile that should suit a wide range of wrist sizes without feeling oversized.

Where the trio really separates is in the dial choice. Seiko is offering three distinct colorways designed to appeal to different tastes: a silver dial on the SSC961 (also listed as SBDL125), a salmon dial on the SSC963 (SBDL127), and a green dial on the SSC965 (SBDL129). While the overall design language remains consistent, the different dial tones give each model its own personality—from understated and versatile to more eye-catching and modern.

Powering the collection is Seiko’s V192 solar movement, a practical choice for everyday wear. Because it’s solar-powered and charges using light energy, it avoids the routine battery swaps that traditional quartz chronographs require. Functionally, the movement supports a 60-minute chronograph and a 24-hour sub-dial, keeping the dial busy in the best way for fans of three-register chronograph layouts. A date window sits between the 4 and 5 o’clock positions, keeping it present without dominating the design.

Seiko also leans into the Speedtimer’s heritage with a tachymeter scale on the bezel—an unmistakable nod to the brand’s sporty chronograph roots and the classic timing aesthetic that made vintage racing-inspired watches so enduring. The bezel finish varies depending on the model: the SSC961 and SSC963 use a black fixed tachymeter bezel, while the SSC965 goes with a brushed steel bezel that complements the green dial for a slightly more metallic, contemporary look.

On the durability side, the watches use a curved sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on the inner surface, helping improve clarity in bright conditions. Water resistance is rated at 10 bar (100 meters), which makes these chronographs suitable for daily wear and surface swimming, though they’re not intended as professional dive watches. Completing the package is a three-fold clasp with push-button release on the bracelet, a familiar and secure setup for a sports watch you’ll likely wear often.

With the SSC961, SSC963, and SSC965, Seiko is essentially offering a well-rounded trio of solar chronographs: classic sizing, strong everyday specs, and dial colors that range from safe to standout—all while remaining readily available as part of the standard Prospex Speedtimer collection.
