Animation studio Science Saru has unveiled an exciting new trailer for the much-anticipated SANDA anime, which is based on the beloved manga by Paru Itagaki, the creator behind Beastars. Enthusiastic fans of the series will be thrilled to learn that the anime adaptation is set to premiere in fall 2025.
The latest trailer, released during the holiday season, also revealed the talented voices behind the principal characters. Ayumu Murase lends his voice to Kazushige Sanda, the story’s protagonist and a descendant of Santa Claus, who will be portrayed by Hiroki Tochi.
The team orchestrating this visually stunning anime consists of top-notch creatives in the industry. Directing is Tomohisa Shimoyama, known for Yurei Deco and Super Shiro, while the series composition and screenplay fall under the skillful hands of Kimiko Ueno, renowned for work on Dungeon Meshi and Ranma 1/2. The character design and animated splendor are crafted by Masamichi Ishiyama, who has left his mark on projects like Little Witch Academia and SSSS.Gridman. The atmospheric score is composed by Tomoyuki Tanaka, famed for Fantastic Plastic Machine.
The second released visual teases an engaging contrast between the youthful innocence of Sanda and the seasoned strength of Santa Claus, promising depth and character development. The poignant tagline, “Santa, please find me a friend,” hints at the emotional journey awaiting viewers.
In addition to its narrative elements, the visual showcases animated snippets accompanied by the timeless Christmas melody, Silent Night, evoking a festive yet dramatic setting filled with explosive excitement.
Based on the intriguing premise of the original manga by Paru Itagaki, SANDA began captivating audiences with its serialization in Weekly Shonen Champion back in 2021 and concluded in July 2024. The story unfolds in a near-future Japan grappling with extremely low birthrates, leading to drastic measures such as arranged marriages from a young age and depriving infants of proper rest. Meanwhile, Santa Claus has been kept in confinement for an extended period.
The unveiling of the SANDA anime trailer and visual has set the stage for what promises to be an engaging narrative and a visual feast, blending Christmas themes with an explosive plot and stirring anticipation for the fall 2025 release.
