Samsung may not be done with its ultra-thin smartphone experiment just yet. According to fresh rumors, the company could bring back the Edge concept with a new Galaxy S27 Edge, potentially joining the Galaxy S27 lineup when it launches early next year.
If the latest claims are accurate, Samsung’s next flagship family could include as many as five models. Alongside the standard Galaxy S27 devices and a rumored Galaxy S27 Pro, the Galaxy S27 Edge may arrive as a slimmer, design-focused option aimed at users who want a premium phone with a strikingly thin profile.
The rumor is especially interesting because Samsung’s previous ultra-thin model, the Galaxy S25 Edge, did not appear to make the impact the company may have hoped for. While its slim design attracted attention, compromises such as battery capacity made it a tougher sell for many buyers. Still, Samsung may be willing to give the form factor another chance with improved hardware and a more refined design.
Current leaks about the Galaxy S27 Edge are conflicting, so the details should be treated with caution. One claim suggests the phone could feature a compact 5.8-inch display, a thickness somewhere in the low 4 mm range, and a 4,300 mAh battery. That would make it dramatically thinner than most modern smartphones while still carrying a surprisingly large battery for its size.
However, another rumor paints a different picture. A second claim suggests the Galaxy S27 Edge could instead come with a much larger 6.8-inch screen and measure around 5.4 mm thick. This version sounds more realistic, especially when compared to the Galaxy S25 Edge, which had a 6.7-inch display, a 5.8 mm body, and a 3,900 mAh battery.
The most questionable part of the leak is the battery figure. Fitting a 4,300 mAh battery inside an extremely thin phone would be a major engineering challenge, particularly if the device is truly under 5 mm thick. If Samsung manages to achieve this, it could mean the company has significantly improved its internal layout or may be preparing to use newer battery technology, such as silicon-carbon cells, to increase capacity without requiring as much physical space.
A larger battery would also address one of the biggest criticisms of previous ultra-slim phones. Thin smartphones often look impressive, but battery life can suffer when manufacturers prioritize design over practicality. If the Galaxy S27 Edge can combine a slim body with respectable endurance, it may have a much stronger chance of appealing to flagship buyers.
At this stage, the Galaxy S27 Edge remains an early rumor rather than a confirmed product. Samsung has not announced the device, and the conflicting specifications suggest that either development details are still changing or some of the leaked information may be inaccurate.
Still, the possibility of a Galaxy S27 Edge adds an interesting twist to Samsung’s next flagship launch. If the company does introduce five Galaxy S27 models, buyers could have more choice than ever, ranging from standard flagship options to a possible Pro model and a stylish ultra-thin Edge variant.
Samsung is expected to reveal the Galaxy S27 series in January or February next year. Until more reliable information appears, the Galaxy S27 Edge should be viewed as a possibility rather than a certainty. But if the rumor proves true, Samsung’s ultra-slim smartphone ambitions may be making a surprising comeback.
