Samsung could be preparing the perfect upgrade for its next compact foldable: a wider Galaxy Z Flip9. After the success of the wider book-style foldable design, applying the same idea to the Flip lineup could solve some of the biggest everyday usability issues that still affect Samsung’s clamshell phones.
A “Galaxy Z Flip9 Wide” would make a lot of sense. The current Flip design is stylish and pocket-friendly, but its tall and narrow shape can feel limiting in daily use. A wider display would instantly improve the experience for typing, browsing the web, scrolling through social media, and watching videos. Since many videos are still designed around a 16:9 format, a broader screen would offer a more natural viewing experience without making the device feel awkward.
A wider form factor could also make the Galaxy Z Flip9 feel more premium and practical when closed. The external display on Samsung’s flip phones has become increasingly important, allowing users to check notifications, control music, respond to messages, use widgets, and even access apps without opening the device. With a wider body, Samsung could fit a larger and more useful cover screen, making the closed-phone experience far more capable.

A Galaxy Z Flip9 Wide would not need to abandon what makes the Flip series popular. It could still be compact when folded, fashionable, and easy to carry. The key difference would be that, when opened, it would feel more like a practical flagship phone rather than a narrow foldable compromise.
Samsung’s Flip series already has strong appeal thanks to its pocketable design, flexible camera features, and stylish foldable experience. But a wider version could take the lineup to the next level. Better typing, a more comfortable display, improved one-handed usability, a larger external screen, stronger battery life, and better cooling would all make the device more attractive to everyday users.
If Samsung wants the Galaxy Z Flip9 to feel like a meaningful upgrade, a Wide Edition could be the smartest move. It would modernize the clamshell foldable formula while addressing the weaknesses of the current design. For many users, a wider Galaxy Z Flip may be exactly what Samsung’s compact foldable lineup needs next.
