Samsung’s upcoming tri-fold smartphone, potentially named the Galaxy G Fold, is generating buzz ahead of its anticipated teaser at the next Galaxy Unpacked event. However, Samsung seems to be strategically planning its timing to avoid overshadowing the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7. According to recent reports, mass production of this innovative device is slated to begin later in the year with limited quantities, hinting at a premium price.
Rumors suggest the Galaxy G Fold could be priced at nearly $3,000. Initial sales are likely to be restricted to select markets, including China and South Korea, due to these production constraints. The official launch might take place in the fourth quarter of 2025, with manufacturing starting in September. This exclusivity, coupled with limited production, suggests a higher price point.
Production will kick off at Samsung’s main facility in Gumi. The restricted quantity isn’t just about gauging market interest; high production costs and the complexity of assembling such a device lead to less favorable yields. Improvements in the manufacturing process could eventually reduce costs, but a positive market reaction is vital for moving forward.
The device is expected to feature a tri-fold OLED panel, with production beginning in August. Samsung is anticipated to use the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, opting not to consider alternatives like the MediaTek Dimensity 9400+. The screen might expand to 10 inches when unfolded, transforming the device into a tablet. Despite this, Samsung reportedly opts for a smaller battery due to space and thermal constraints, anticipated to be less than the 5,600mAh found in the Huawei Mate XT. Charging capabilities seem modest, with an expected 25W output and uncertainty around Qi wireless charging support.
Stay tuned for more updates, especially during the Galaxy Unpacked event, as additional details surface.
