Samsung may be preparing one of its biggest smartphone shake-ups yet for 2027, with a reported plan to launch eight premium Galaxy devices across the year. The strategy is said to include four Galaxy S27 models in the first half of 2027, followed by four next-generation foldable phones in the second half.
According to information circulating from industry sources in South Korea, Samsung is planning a “4+4” flagship approach. That would mean a wider Galaxy S27 lineup early in the year and an expanded Galaxy Z foldable family later on. If accurate, this could mark a major shift in Samsung’s annual smartphone release strategy as competition in the premium phone market continues to intensify.
The Galaxy S27 series is expected to include the Galaxy S27, Galaxy S27+, Galaxy S27 Ultra, and a new Galaxy S27 Pro model. The addition of a Pro version would give Samsung another high-end option between the standard and Ultra models, potentially targeting users who want advanced camera features and premium performance without moving all the way to the Ultra tier.
Samsung’s 2027 foldable lineup could be even more interesting. The company is reportedly preparing four foldable models: the Galaxy Z Flip9, Galaxy Z Fold9, Galaxy Z Fold9 Ultra, and a second-generation tri-fold device, likely to be called the Galaxy Z TriFold2.
The Galaxy Z TriFold2 may become the most exciting device in the lineup. While full specifications have not surfaced yet, early expectations suggest that Samsung may keep the large inner display close to the original size, around 9.96 inches, with a 4:3 aspect ratio. That would make it closer to a compact tablet when fully opened, giving users more space for multitasking, entertainment, reading, gaming, and productivity.
One of the biggest improvements rumored for the next tri-fold model is a slimmer and more balanced design. Earlier reports suggested Samsung wants all three body sections to have a similar thickness, which could make the device feel more refined and easier to handle. A thinner tri-fold design would be important, as size and weight are key concerns for foldable phone buyers.
Samsung has already been expanding its foldable phone strategy. What was once a two-device lineup built around the Galaxy Z Flip and Galaxy Z Fold has grown into a more diverse family. With an Ultra foldable and a tri-fold model entering the picture, Samsung appears to be positioning itself as the leading force in foldable smartphone innovation.
The timing could also be significant. Apple’s iPhone will reach its 20th anniversary in 2027, and the premium smartphone market is expected to become especially competitive. Samsung’s reported eight-device strategy may be designed to keep the Galaxy brand highly visible throughout the year and offer more choices across different flagship categories.
Production volume for Samsung’s first tri-fold phone is believed to be limited, but industry sources expect that availability could increase with the second-generation model. If demand is strong and Samsung manages to improve durability, weight, and pricing, the Galaxy Z TriFold2 could become a much more important part of the company’s foldable lineup.
