Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 May Be the Final Model in Samsung’s Compact Foldable Lineup
Samsung’s popular Galaxy Z Flip series may be approaching a major turning point. According to a recent leak from a well-known industry insider, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 could be the last device in the compact foldable lineup, marking a possible end to one of the brand’s most recognizable foldable phone designs.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 is expected to be officially announced on July 22, 2026, as the successor to the Galaxy Z Flip7. While Samsung has not confirmed any plans to discontinue the Flip series, early reports suggest the company may be reconsidering the future of its clamshell-style foldable phones.
One of the biggest reasons could be rising production costs. The ongoing DRAM supply crisis has reportedly pushed component prices higher, making foldable smartphones more expensive to produce. Rumors suggest the Galaxy Z Flip8 may launch with 256 GB of storage at a price of around €1,299, which would be roughly €100 more than its predecessor.
That price increase could make the Galaxy Z Flip8 a harder sell. At that level, Samsung’s compact foldable would be competing directly with premium flagship phones such as the iPhone 17 Pro. However, traditional flagship devices often offer stronger camera systems, larger batteries, and fewer compromises compared to compact foldables.
Samsung’s foldable strategy may also be shifting. The company is expected to expand its larger foldable lineup with the Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, offering different screen sizes and premium features. A smaller, wider version of the Fold could potentially fill the gap currently occupied by the Galaxy Z Flip series, giving users a compact foldable option without maintaining a separate Flip product line.
Still, the Galaxy Z Flip9 is not completely off the table. Samsung may wait to see how well the Galaxy Z Flip8 performs in the market before making a final decision. Strong sales could convince the company to continue the series, while weaker demand may push Samsung to pause or retire the lineup.
Another possibility is that Samsung could skip one generation rather than cancel the Flip series permanently. If memory prices begin to fall again by 2028, the company may bring back a new Galaxy Z Flip model at a more competitive price.
For now, the future of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip series remains uncertain. The Galaxy Z Flip8 could become either the final chapter of Samsung’s compact foldable story or a crucial test that determines whether the Flip design still has a place in the premium smartphone market.
