Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 Could Outshine Garmin’s Fenix 8 Pro MicroLED with Record-Breaking Display

Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 could bring a much brighter display and longer battery life

Samsung’s next rugged smartwatch may be shaping up to be a major upgrade. The upcoming Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 is expected to feature a new high-brightness OLED display, a larger battery, and tougher durability ratings, making it a stronger competitor in the premium smartwatch market.

One of the biggest rumored improvements is the display. Samsung Display previously showcased an OCF-OLED panel at Mobile World Congress 2025, and this technology could make its way into the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2. The panel is said to reach up to 5,000 nits of brightness, which would make the smartwatch far easier to read outdoors, even under direct sunlight.

That level of brightness would be a major benefit for runners, hikers, cyclists, and anyone who regularly uses their smartwatch outside. Bright screens are especially important on wearable devices because users often need to check information quickly without adjusting their position or shielding the screen from sunlight.

The new OCF-OLED technology may also help improve efficiency. Samsung Display has claimed that these panels are around 20 percent thinner and more power-efficient than previous versions. Even more interesting, the panel is expected to use the same amount of power at 5,000 nits as older panels consumed at 3,000 nits. In simple terms, the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 could deliver a much brighter screen without draining the battery faster.

Battery life may be another major highlight. The Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 is rumored to include an 800 mAh battery, up from the 590 mAh battery used in the previous model. That is an increase of 210 mAh, or about 35.6 percent.

When paired with the more efficient display, the larger battery could lead to a noticeable improvement in real-world endurance. Current expectations suggest battery life may rise from around 60 hours to approximately three or even four days, depending on usage. For a premium smartwatch with advanced health tracking, GPS features, and a bright display, that would be a significant improvement.

Durability also appears to remain a key focus. The Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 is expected to carry an IP69K rating, which would offer strong protection against dust, water, and high-pressure water exposure. The watch is also expected to retain 10 ATM water resistance, making it suitable for swimming and demanding outdoor activities.

Leaked renders suggest Samsung will continue positioning the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 as a tough, outdoor-focused smartwatch. With a brighter display, bigger battery, and improved protection, it could appeal to users who want a smartwatch built for fitness, adventure, and everyday reliability.

The Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 is expected to be officially introduced on July 22. It may launch alongside the Galaxy Watch9, Galaxy Z Fold8 Wide, and Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra. If the rumored specifications are accurate, Samsung’s next Ultra smartwatch could be one of its most important wearable upgrades yet.
