Samsung has created a buzz with the release of the Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra and Tab S10 Plus, opting to remove the smaller variant from the lineup. This shift also marks a switch from the usual Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy to the new MediaTek Dimensity 9300 SoC. While the Tab S10 series seems to continue the tradition of superior build quality set by the previous Galaxy Tab S9 family, the introduction of MediaTek’s chips had some fans questioning the performance.
Fortunately, recent tests have eased these concerns. In a recent performance showdown, the new MediaTek Dimensity 9300+ has demonstrated superior capabilities over its Snapdragon counterpart. In both synthetic benchmarks and practical usage scenarios, the Dimensity 9300+ outshone the competition, delivering impressive numbers.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra’s Geekbench results were quite telling: in the single-core category, it scored 2188 points, and in multicore, it reached 7272 points. In contrast, the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra lagged behind with 2066 and 5414 points, respectively. When it comes to GPU performance, the Tab S10 Ultra also soared ahead, achieving 14681 in Vulkan tests and 12681 in OpenCL—improvements of 35.3% and 24.7% faster compared to the Tab S9 Ultra, whose scores stood at 9504 and 9553.
Beyond benchmarks, real-world performance proved just as compelling. During video editing tests using LumaFusion, the Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra accomplished tasks significantly faster, completing renders well before the Tab S9 Ultra.
In terms of efficiency, the battery life was closely monitored. Both tablets exhibited a similar 5% drop in charge during testing. However, these numbers didn’t account for thermal performance or potential degradation, areas where many processors, including Qualcomm’s, sometimes struggle.
Overall, it appears the gap between Qualcomm and MediaTek chips is closing, providing more competitive options in the mobile market, which bodes well for consumer choice and innovation.
