Rumors Suggest Sony Xperia 1 VII to Feature Enhanced Exmor T Technology

Exciting developments are surfacing for the anticipated Sony Xperia 1 VII, particularly concerning its camera capabilities. Enthusiasts are buzzing about a potential upgrade for the 2025 model, compared to its 2024 forerunner. However, as these details are based on rumors, it’s wise to take them with a grain of skepticism for now.

The latest speculation has emerged from Weibo, a popular Chinese social media network. The source, known for their previous insights into Sony’s upcoming flagship phones, suggests that the Xperia 1 VII could see a significant enhancement in its camera sensors. The talk of the town is that it might feature three Exmor T sensors for the rear-facing cameras, departing from the Xperia 1 VI’s setup, which comprises one Exmor T sensor and two Exmor RS sensors.

The Exmor T sensor, launched with the Sony Xperia 1 V in 2023, has already proven effective, offering marked improvements under low-light conditions and significantly reducing image noise compared to its predecessor, the Exmor RS. Sony claims this sensor delivers picture quality twice as good. Should Sony replace the Exmor RS sensors used in the telephoto and ultra-wide cameras with Exmor T sensors, it could potentially take the photography experience on the Xperia 1 VII to the next level—provided the imaging software and processing keep pace.

Despite these intriguing possibilities, the rumor also states that the sensor sizes will remain unchanged: 1/3.5 for the telephoto camera and 1/2.5 for the ultra-wide camera. It’s worth noting, however, that the same leaker initially mentioned in January that there would be only one sensor change; this recent rumor speaks of two.

While we wait for official confirmation, the possibility of a Sony flagship packed with advanced Exmor T sensors is certainly tantalizing. This prospect aligns with Sony’s history of pushing boundaries in mobile photography, building anticipation among tech enthusiasts and photographic professionals alike.
