RUINER 2 Revealed: The Cyberpunk Shooter’s Brutal Return

Reikon Games is officially returning to its neon-soaked dystopia with RUINER 2, a newly announced sequel that pushes the original’s brutal cyberpunk combat into a deeper, more replayable action RPG. The game is currently in development for Windows PC via Steam, and while there’s no release date yet, the studio’s message is clear: this follow-up is built for players who love fast fights, build experimentation, and discovering outrageous skill combinations.

According to game director Marek Roefler, RUINER 2 is designed around a problem many ARPG fans know well: spending dozens or even hundreds of hours locked into a single character path. The team’s solution is the Shell System, built for theory-crafters and action fans who want to swap builds on the fly, test “broken” synergies, and keep combat feeling fresh instead of committed to one rigid class choice.

RUINER 2 takes you back to Rengkok, a grim industrial nightmare where corporations don’t just control your life—they claim ownership over your death. In this world, even “expiring” can be treated like a breach of contract, keeping you trapped in a cycle that’s engineered to maximize suffering and productivity. Escape isn’t handed to you. You take it, violently, by forcing the system to let you go.

At the heart of RUINER 2 is that new Shell System. Instead of playing as one character for the entire game, you command a roster of up to three unique combat bodies called Shells and switch between them instantly as battles evolve. Each Shell has its own playstyle, special abilities, and role in the chaos, making your roster itself the build. And you don’t just select these bodies from a menu—you earn them by defeating the bosses hunting you, taking their power and adding it to your collection.

Combat is described as a high-speed puzzle where reflexes keep you alive, but smart decisions win fights. Swapping Shells at the right moment and chaining abilities across your roster is where the system opens up. RUINER 2 leans heavily into synergy-driven gameplay, encouraging players to create devastating combat loops that grow stronger with every switch. This applies whether you’re playing solo or teaming up, with support for up to three-player co-op. With more players comes more Shells in action, more combinations to coordinate, and much higher stakes.

Loot and customization also lean into meaningful choices rather than effortless power creep. You’ll outfit Shells with weapons, protective gear, and internal implants, but every piece of tech draws from limited resources tied to that specific Shell. There are no “free slots,” only trade-offs. The game’s Overload System revolves around three key resources—Power, CPU, and Memory—making loadout planning a core part of your strategy.

Crafting is built to feel like a gamble you choose to take. Push upgrades further and a “Complexity Factor” rises, offering better rewards but real risk. Mods can alter your equipment in unexpected ways, meaning every deep upgrade is a decision with consequences, not just a guaranteed stat boost.

Progression is split between your Hacker and your Shells, giving RUINER 2 multiple layers of build depth. Your Hacker levels through Karma, which you invest into a Neural Network passive tree that shapes your entire roster. Meanwhile, each Shell has its own specialized growth with four skills, and each skill branches into two paths with nodes that change how abilities behave—not just how much damage they deal. The deeper you specialize, the more your build becomes something personal, something invented, rather than copied from a guide.

For players who live for long-term grind and testing builds against harder content, RUINER 2 promises an “endless endgame” set across escalating tiers in Rengkok’s darkest districts. Expect stronger enemies, better loot, and no clear ceiling beyond how far your roster synergies and gear planning can take you.

Co-op is positioned as more than a simple add-on. With up to three players, you can bring six Shells into the combined experience, coordinate ability chains, and tackle challenges that a single roster might struggle to handle. It’s built for groups that want to plan combos, trigger cascading damage, and push difficulty together.

Reikon Games also emphasizes a straightforward stance on monetization: RUINER 2 follows a no pay-to-win rule. Any microtransactions will not affect gameplay, and build power, progression, and roster strength are earned through play—not purchased.

With RUINER 2, Reikon Games is aiming to evolve the fight without losing the identity that made the original memorable: relentless pressure, aggressive enemies, and that constant sense that the only path forward is straight through the violence. If the Shell System delivers on its promise, RUINER 2 could become one of the more exciting upcoming cyberpunk action RPGs for PC players who crave speed, experimentation, and builds that break the screen apart.
