RPCS3 hits a major PS3 emulation milestone as Armored Core: Verdict Day gets closer to fully playable status
RPCS3, the popular PlayStation 3 emulator for PC, has reached another important milestone. The emulator can now run Armored Core: Verdict Day, a classic FromSoftware PS3 exclusive, without any known game-specific issues listed in its compatibility database.
The latest improvement fixes a long-standing visual problem in the mech action title. According to the RPCS3 development team, contributor Yahfz resolved the flickering blue squares that appeared during movement. With that graphical bug now gone, Armored Core: Verdict Day no longer has any known issues recorded in the emulator’s database.
That is big news for fans of FromSoftware’s Armored Core series, especially players who want to revisit the PlayStation 3-era entries on modern PC hardware. Armored Core: Verdict Day is known for its intense mech combat, deep customization, and tactical battles, making it one of the more interesting PS3 exclusives to preserve through emulation.
However, the game has not yet been moved to RPCS3’s “Playable” category. It is still listed under “Ingame,” which usually means the title can boot and be played, but may still suffer from performance problems that prevent it from delivering a smooth experience on recommended hardware.
In other words, the major visual issue appears to be solved, but optimization work may still be needed before Armored Core: Verdict Day can officially be considered fully playable for most users.
RPCS3’s compatibility progress continues to be impressive. The emulator can currently run 79.4% of the PlayStation 3 library with good performance and no major issues. That makes it one of the most advanced console emulation projects available today, especially considering how complex the PS3’s Cell processor architecture is to replicate on PC.
For players wondering whether their system can handle Armored Core: Verdict Day, RPCS3’s recommended specifications are designed to match or exceed original PS3 performance. The current recommended setup includes a Ryzen 5 5600 or Intel Core i5-10400 processor, an AMD RX 5600 XT or Nvidia RTX 2060 graphics card, and 16 GB of RAM.
Since PlayStation 3 emulation is often heavily dependent on CPU performance, users with processors stronger than the Ryzen 5 5600 may already be able to run Armored Core: Verdict Day with solid results. A faster modern CPU could help reduce stutters, improve frame pacing, and deliver a better overall gameplay experience.
The emulator also supports modern controller options, including the DualShock 4, making it easier for players to enjoy PS3 games with a familiar PlayStation-style setup on PC.
This update is another step forward for RPCS3 and game preservation. As more titles move closer to perfect compatibility, PC players gain better access to important PlayStation 3 games that may otherwise remain locked to aging hardware. For Armored Core fans, this is especially exciting, as Verdict Day is becoming much easier to experience beyond the original console.
