Rohm Semiconductor has revealed a staggering net loss of JPY50 billion (approximately US$337 million) for the fiscal year 2024, marking its first annual loss in over a decade and the second-largest in the company’s history. This unexpected downturn, highlighted by reports from Yomiuri and Nikkei Asia, was far beyond the company’s earlier estimate of a JPY6 billion loss.
The steep decline is largely attributed to plummeting sales of power semiconductors, especially those used in electric vehicles (EVs). Revenues also took a hit, dropping by 4.1% compared to the previous year, totaling JPY448.4 billion. This challenging financial landscape saw Rohm transition from an operating profit of JPY43.3 billion in fiscal 2023 to an alarming JPY40 billion operating loss.
