Enthusiasm surrounding Rivian’s electric vehicle lineup has grown, particularly following the showcase of its compact models, the R3 and R3X, set to debut after the R2’s anticipated 2026 launch. Rivian’s CEO, RJ Scaringe, describes the vehicles’ design as a fusion of various car styles, from crossovers and SUVs to hatchbacks and wagons, which seems to resonate well with the audience.
As Rivian progresses to more midrange electric vehicles (EVs) with their R2 model, the forthcoming R3 and R3X are expected to make the brand even more accessible. The R3 is anticipated to have a starting price around $35,000, while the R3X is estimated to be about $5,000 more, positioning Rivian as a mainstream EV contender.
The R3X model in particular promises “insane performance,” thanks to its tri-motor setup and torque vectoring, which is projected to deliver a rally car’s spirit wrapped in a versatile adventure package. Both the R3 and R3X models boast an apparently compact exterior reminiscent of a VW Golf Country, yet they do not compromise interior space, providing ample seating and trunk capacity. Additionally, they will include Rear Accessory Ports for convenient attachment of accessories like bike mounts.
Projected to arrive in the US by 2027, after the R2’s early 2026 release, the R3 and R3X have piqued the interest of many consumers, with the R3 line, especially appealing for the European market. While Scaringe hasn’t specified the exact timing for the European release, the commitment to launching these models in both regions speaks to the versatility and global appeal of the vehicles. Scaringe highlighted that the R3 is particularly well-suited to European roads and market demands.
Overall, Rivian’s R3 and R3X models promise to bring performance, practicality, and affordability to both the US and European EV markets, though exact launch dates for Europe remain uncertain. As consumers await these new additions to the Rivian lineup, anticipation continues to build for a brand that’s rapidly positioning itself at the forefront of the electric mobility industry.
