Polar is reportedly developing a new wearable strap aimed at simplifying the measurement of visceral fat, a type of fat linked to conditions like diabetes and heart disease. Current methods for measuring visceral fat typically involve complex procedures like CT scans or MRIs. However, Polar’s innovation could potentially streamline this process through a patent-pending wearable device. This device, which could be worn around the chest or abdomen, aims to measure heart rate and determine fat tissue quantities based on body composition data.
In a recent interview, Polar confirmed its work on this new technology. Jari Miettinen, a representative from the company, highlighted their goal of enhancing health monitoring capabilities in wearable devices. Despite the promising development, Polar has not yet committed to a timeline or confirmed the commercialization of this feature, indicating that the project is still in the research and evaluation phase.
