Retroid is set to expand its line of gaming handhelds, introducing AMOLED displays in its upcoming models. The latest announcement from Retroid highlights the Pocket 5, an anticipated addition to the company’s portfolio. While the focus briefly shifted to the new 3.7-inch Pocket Mini, recent updates confirm that the Pocket 4 and Pocket 4 Pro successor, the Pocket 5, will feature a 5.5-inch AMOLED display with a 1080p resolution.
Despite the Pocket Mini and Pocket 5 still awaiting release, it is speculated that both devices might debut around the same time. The Pocket 5’s display specifications mark a significant improvement from the IPS panels found in the Pocket 4 and Pocket 4 Pro, which measure 4.7 inches with a 750p resolution.
The Pocket 5’s AMOLED display offers a 16:9 aspect ratio and a higher definition compared to its predecessors. This upgrade positions the Pocket 5 as a strong contender against other gaming handhelds in the market, such as the AYANEO Pocket Air, which launched with a MediaTek Dimensity 1200 processor. While AYANEO had hinted at a Snapdragon-powered version, it was never released. Consequently, the Pocket 5, potentially equipped with more powerful internals, is expected to outperform existing models from competitors upon its release.
Retroid’s continual updates and specifications reveal a promising advancement in their product line, emphasizing improved display quality and overall device performance.
