Renesas Launches the World’s Fastest DDR5 RCD, Driving RDIMM Performance to 9600 MT/s

Renesas is pushing server memory performance to a new level with the industry’s first sixth‑generation DDR5 Registered Clock Driver (RCD) for RDIMM modules. The new Gen6 device hits a breakthrough 9600 MT/s, delivering up to a 10% bandwidth uplift over current Gen5 DDR5 RCDs running at 8800 MT/s. It’s designed to feed the exploding bandwidth demands of AI training and inference, high‑performance computing, and large language model workloads.

Beyond raw speed, the Gen6 RCD focuses on signal integrity, power efficiency, and easier system deployment at higher data rates. It maintains backward compatibility with Gen5 platforms, giving server builders a smooth upgrade path while unlocking higher throughput for next‑generation CPUs and memory stacks.

Key highlights:
– 9600 MT/s data rate for DDR5 RDIMM modules, enabling notably higher memory bandwidth
– Up to 10% bandwidth increase compared to Renesas’ Gen5 RCD at 8800 MT/s
– Backward compatibility with Gen5 ecosystems for streamlined upgrades
– Enhanced signal integrity and power optimization for AI, HPC, and LLM workloads
– Expanded Decision Feedback Equalization with eight taps and 1.5 mV granularity for precise margin tuning
– Decision Engine Signal Telemetry and Margining (DESTM) to provide real‑time signal quality indicators, margin visibility, and diagnostic feedback at higher speeds

Renesas developed the Gen6 RCD in close collaboration with CPU and memory partners as well as end customers to ensure robust performance across diverse server platforms. Industry support is already lining up; Samsung noted it plans to integrate the Gen6 RCD into its DDR5 DIMMs across multiple SoC platforms to meet growing AI and HPC demand.

Availability:
The RRG5006x Gen6 RCD targets the stringent requirements of next‑generation servers, offering performance, reliability, and scalability. Renesas is sampling the RRG5006x to select customers, including all major DRAM suppliers, with production planned for the first half of 2027.

With 9600 MT/s speeds, advanced equalization, and on‑device telemetry, Renesas’ Gen6 DDR5 RCD sets a new bar for RDIMM performance and gives data center builders a timely path to higher bandwidth as AI and HPC workloads continue to scale.
