Reddit Introduces AI-Powered Search Tool with Google Gemini Integration

Reddit has just elevated its game with a key enhancement to its AI-powered search tool, Reddit Answers. The platform has now integrated Google Gemini, marking a significant upgrade aimed at refining search relevance and delivering swift responses to users’ inquiries.

This development follows over a year of collaborative efforts between Reddit and Google Cloud, leveraging the benefits of Google’s Vertex AI to innovate AI agents. The integration of Gemini is expected to elevate the user experience by offering more precise search results and instant summaries of Reddit content.

Having launched in beta in December 2024, Reddit Answers seeks to revolutionize the way users interact with the platform. Instead of venturing out to search engines for information, users can ask questions directly within Reddit and receive well-curated summaries crafted from existing posts and comments. This initiative positions Reddit in direct competition with other AI companies that tap into its extensive data for training their models.

The response from users has been varied. Some feel the feature resembles a generic version of Grok AI—a tool from X that has drawn criticism for misinformation issues. Conversely, many users appreciate the platform’s ability to distill collective wisdom and practical tips on topics like “how to clean a rusty cast iron skillet.”

For now, Reddit Answers is available exclusively in English for users in the U.S. on both the web and iOS devices, setting a foundation for potential global expansion and further innovation in the near future.
