In an unexpected twist, Whitney Wolfe Herd has returned to the helm of Bumble, the dating app she founded and took public, following the sudden resignation of CEO Lidiane Jones. Wolfe Herd shared insights into the situation in a recent interview, shedding light on her journey and the company’s future.
Initially, Wolfe Herd had no plans to return to Bumble. After stepping away, she grappled with existential questions about her identity, eventually finding peace in daily meditation and casual board calls. But everything shifted when Jones reached out, admitting she felt overwhelmed, and soon after, Jones decided to step down.
Addressing rumors of potential conflict between them, Wolfe Herd dismissed such speculation. “People often want to see drama, especially between two women, but that’s just not the case here,” she clarified, emphasizing their mutual respect.
Wolfe Herd saw reflections of her past struggles in Jones’s experiences, noting, “It was like looking in a mirror. I had been where she was, pushing myself too hard, working those extra hours, and taking on more than I could handle.”
The challenges Bumble faces were also part of her decision to return. With recent first-quarter earnings showing a 7.7% decline from the previous year, Wolfe Herd felt a personal responsibility. “Bumble needs me now,” she admitted. “It’s an extension of who I am, and seeing its decline has been difficult.”
Adding to her personal milestones, Wolfe Herd announced she’s expecting her third child, marking yet another chapter in both her personal and professional life. Her story continues to inspire, demonstrating resilience and commitment to her vision.
