THQ Nordic and developer Quantumfrog have locked in the release date for Pumuckl and the Crown of the Pirate King, a brand-new puzzle adventure inspired by the beloved German children’s series. The game is coming to Windows PC and Nintendo Switch on March 5.
The story kicks off in the familiar chaos of Master Eder’s workshop, where there’s always something to fix, build, or clean up—especially when Pumuckl is involved. While attempting to tidy up, the mischievous kobold stumbles on a strange bottle. Inside is a ship in a bottle… and something is moving. Curiosity wins, the bottle is opened, and in an instant Pumuckl is pulled into a magical vortex that drops him right onto the tiny ship—except it’s no longer tiny.
Pumuckl wakes up in a sprawling pirate world that somehow exists inside the bottle, far larger than it has any right to be. There he meets Captain Krimskrams, a quirky pirate captain who’s as forgetful as he is determined. Krimskrams needs help: the fearsome Pirate King has cursed the ship and sealed himself away behind a magical door. To reach him and break the curse, Pumuckl and the captain must hunt down golden doubloons—the only key that can open the way forward.
Exploration stretches across multiple fantastical locations thanks to a magical door network that connects different worlds. Expect to hop from tropical islands to enchanted ruins and even an ancient pirate castle, with surprises and hazards scattered throughout. Along the way, you’ll deal with tricky puzzles, playful kobold traps, skeleton pirates, and a variety of mini-games that keep the adventure moving.
You won’t be alone, either. Krakula, a cheeky parrot companion, tags along to offer hints when you need them—though just as often, the bird seems more interested in commenting on your missteps.
Pumuckl and the Crown of the Pirate King is built around isometric 3D puzzle levels, mixing exploration with brain-teasing challenges. Mini-games include memory-based activities, collecting quests, and other tricky tasks. There’s also local couch co-op, letting a second player jump in as Captain Krimskrams to help solve puzzles and push through obstacles together.
And when it’s time to settle things, the showdown with the Pirate King promises a multi-phase final boss encounter that blends puzzles, combat, and reaction-based moments for a more varied finish.
With its familiar character, magical pirate setting, and a mix of puzzles and co-op play, Pumuckl and the Crown of the Pirate King is shaping up to be a lighthearted adventure for fans of classic puzzle games and anyone curious about Pumuckl’s latest mischief—arriving March 5 on PC and Nintendo Switch.
