PS Plus January 2026 Free Games Leak Sparks Early Buzz

Sony is expected to reveal the PlayStation Plus free games for January 2026 later today, December 31. But ahead of the official announcement, one title may have already leaked—and it’s a big name for racing fans.

The early info comes from Bilbill-Kun, a well-known Dealabs leakster with a solid history of accurately sharing PlayStation Plus lineups before they go live. According to his latest report, Need for Speed Unbound will be included as one of the free PS Plus games for January 2026.

Released in 2022, Need for Speed Unbound is the most recent mainline entry in Electronic Arts’ long-running Need for Speed franchise. It delivers fast street racing, a distinct visual style, and the kind of arcade-meets-realism handling the series is known for. If this leak is accurate, it could be a strong pick for players looking to kick off the new year with a high-profile racing game.

That said, some subscribers may have mixed feelings. Need for Speed Unbound has previously been available in the PS Plus Extra and Premium game catalog, meaning many players have already tried it—or even finished it—through those tiers. For that part of the audience, seeing it return as a monthly free game may feel less exciting than a completely new addition.

There’s also the timing: the Need for Speed Unbound Ultimate Edition is currently heavily discounted on the PlayStation Store, reportedly down by 85% to around $12.74. That makes the “free game” value feel a bit different for anyone who recently bought it or has been considering the sale.

Still, for players who skipped the game, never had access to Extra or Premium, or simply want an easy way to add a major racing title to their library, this would be a welcome inclusion. And with only one game leaked so far, the rest of the January 2026 PS Plus free games lineup remains unknown until Sony makes it official later today.
