Resident Evil 2 Remake sales on iOS

Price Hike on iOS Tanks Resident Evil 2 Remake Sales to Below 10,000 Copies

Resident Evil 2 Remake struggled to find financial success upon its iOS release, with Capcom falling short of crossing the 10,000 sales threshold. The game, which originally launched for multiple platforms in 2019, hit the iOS market at a time when many iPhone users might have already experienced it on other devices.

This misstep echoes the poor performance of Resident Evil 7 Remake on iOS, which also failed to exceed $30,000 in sales. This pattern suggests the need for a revamped pricing strategy. When Resident Evil 2 Remake first landed on iOS, it enjoyed a sale price of just $10, a move that sparked the majority of its transactions, totaling around $95,000.

The tide turned when the price leapt to $40 after the discount period ended on January 9, resulting in a dramatic drop in sales. Appmagic data reveals that post-price hike, revenue plummeted to $7,000, equating to only about 175 additional copies sold. The core issue was not the game’s quality or content, as the Resident Evil 2 Remake is widely acknowledged for its polished gameplay.

For a successful mobile entry, Capcom might need to reconsider its pricing model, making it more appealing similarly to platforms like Steam, where prices usually decrease a few months post-launch to boost sales.

Capcom’s challenge is clear: replicate the success they enjoy on other platforms by revisiting their pricing structures to meet the expectations and purchasing habits of mobile gamers.
