PlayStation grants rare refunds over Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection’s rocky rollout

PlayStation Store is issuing rare refunds for Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection as players report severe input lag, especially on PS5. While refunds for downloaded and played games are typically off the table, multiple users say they’ve received credits after contacting support, citing performance problems that undermine a genre where split-second reactions decide every match.

Digital Eclipse’s collection brings together several early Mortal Kombat entries, but the leap from arcades to modern platforms hasn’t been painless. Input latency is the headline issue. Tester Nigel Woodall measured response times across PC, Switch 2, Xbox, PS4, and PS5, finding PlayStation systems at the back of the pack with over 108 milliseconds of lag. By contrast, the PC version responded in about 22.05 milliseconds, and there wasn’t much variation between the individual games within the compilation.

Latency isn’t the only complaint. Players have flagged audio glitches and bare-bones multiplayer options, contributing to mixed impressions on PC storefronts. Some of the delay may stem from the compilation’s blend of custom emulators and existing emulation solutions, though it remains unclear why PS4 and PS5 fare significantly worse than other platforms.

In an unusual move, PlayStation has been honoring refund requests for some buyers despite the games being downloaded or played. Officially, automated refunds are available within 14 days of purchase via the PlayStation website or app, and downloading typically voids eligibility. However, a number of players, including posters like Natural_Parsnip_5291 on community forums, report that support agents have approved credits due to performance issues in this specific case.

On the development side, Stephen Frost of Digital Eclipse has been updating fans on incoming patches, with fixes targeting sluggish button response among the top priorities. An update was teased for November 4, with more improvements expected as the team continues its work.

What this means for players:
– If you’re experiencing heavy input lag or other technical problems, reach out to PlayStation support and reference your issues with the Legacy Kollection; some users have received refunds or credits.
– Keep an eye on developer updates from Digital Eclipse for patches aimed at improving input responsiveness and resolving audio and multiplayer concerns.
– If you’re deciding where to play, early testing suggests the PC version currently offers the most responsive experience, while PS4 and PS5 show the highest latency.

Until patches arrive, many fighting game fans on PlayStation may want to hold off or seek a refund, while those on PC are seeing the best performance out of the gate.
