PlayStation 5 Pro Set to Launch on September 9 with $100 Price Hike

A new leak suggests that Sony may soon announce the PlayStation 5 Pro through a blog post. Similar to the base model, it will be available with or without a disk drive and will see a $100 price increase for both versions.

Although the PlayStation 5 Pro wasn’t officially unveiled at Gamescom 2024, it was widely discussed among developers at the conference. Information from a post on a well-known image board provides potential details on its release date and pricing. According to the anonymous source, the PlayStation 5 Pro will come in two versions. The digital model will be priced at $599, while the version with a disk drive will cost $699. The announcement is expected to come via a blog post on September 9, with the product hitting shelves on December 6.

One notable feature is that users who own Sony’s PS5 external disk drive will be able to connect it to the new PS5 Pro seamlessly, much like with the PlayStation 5 Slim. Contrary to earlier rumors, the PlayStation 5 Pro will not include a 2 TB NVMe SSD. The actual design closely resembles the recent renders, which some have compared to an Adidas logo.

It remains unclear whether any new games will launch alongside the PlayStation 5 Pro, but existing games are likely to receive updates that will enable them to run at 4K 120 FPS, earning them the “PlayStation 5 Pro Enhanced” label.

The details provided by the leak are yet to be confirmed officially by Sony, so it will be interesting to see how much of this speculation turns out to be true.
