Google’s Pixel Watch 3 is making waves as the company’s first smartwatch to offer two different sizes, 41mm and 45mm. If you pre-ordered, you’ll be glad to know that shipments are set to begin soon. However, there’s a catch when it comes to how long this sleek new device will receive software support.
Google has officially stated that the Pixel Watch 3 will receive guaranteed software updates until at least October 2027. This commitment equates to about three years of updates, ensuring that your watch stays current with security updates and potentially some new features along the way. This is consistent with the support duration Google has provided for its previous Pixel Watch models. For instance, the original Pixel Watch, which debuted in 2022, will get updates until October 2025, while the Pixel Watch 2, released in 2023, will be supported until October 2026.
However, this three-year timeframe pales in comparison to the seven-year software update guarantee for the Pixel 9 series smartphones. The Pixel Watch 3 also lags behind Samsung’s commitment, with the Galaxy Watch series receiving four years of updates starting from the Galaxy Watch 4.
The Pixel Watch 3 runs on Wear OS 5, the latest iteration of Google’s smartwatch software, which is based on Android 14. This OS brings a host of improvements, particularly in health and fitness tracking, and includes enhancements in power efficiency. Notably, the larger 45mm variant boasts a bigger battery, while the 41mm version offers up to 20% faster charging.
While the Pixel Watch 3 may not have the longest software support in the market, its advanced features and sleek design make it a compelling choice for those looking to stay connected on the go. If you’ve already placed your pre-order, keep an eye on your mailbox later this month for its arrival.
