Pixel 9 Pro Fold Incompatibility with Official Wireless Chargers Confirmed by Google Due to Unique Design

Google has recently started shipping the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel 9 Pro XL, while the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is still waiting in the wings. Interestingly, the new foldable version not only features weaker camera hardware and a different design compared to its Pixel 9 Pro counterparts but is also incompatible with Google’s official wireless chargers.

Google has confirmed that the Pixel 9 Pro Fold will not work with the Pixel Stand Gen 1 or Gen 2. The company explained that the foldable has been designed in such a way that its wireless charging coil does not align correctly with these stands. According to a forum post, the charging coil on the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is not perfectly centered, unlike previous Pixel phones, which may make wireless charging difficult. Users are advised to adjust the position of the phone on other wireless chargers and check the charging indicator to ensure proper alignment.

Despite this, the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel 9 Pro XL are compatible with both versions of the Pixel Stand. This indicates that Google may not be giving its foldable series the same level of attention as its mainline flagship smartphones. The off-center design of the wireless charging coil in the Pixel 9 Pro Fold could complicate wireless charging on any vertical wireless charger.
