Pebble Watch Round 2 Hits Production Snags as Launch Slips Again

Pebble Round 2 delayed again as manufacturing issue pushes shipments to July

The Pebble Round 2 smartwatch has hit another delay, with mass production still not ready to begin. Although the company appears to be close to moving into full-scale manufacturing, founder Eric Migicovsky has confirmed that a production-related issue must be fixed before the device can ship to customers.

The latest update means Pebble Round 2 shipments are now expected to start in July. The company’s current goal is to deliver all pre-ordered units by September, giving early buyers a clearer, though later-than-expected, timeline.

According to Migicovsky, the delay was caused by a cosmetic defect discovered during a recent visit to the manufacturing site in China. The issue appears as a small indentation near the area where the strap lug connects to the watch case. While it does not sound like a major functional flaw, the company is aiming to correct it before mass production begins.

The problem is linked to the CNC machining process used during manufacturing. Pebble’s planned fix involves adjusting the metal injection molding die and avoiding the CNC cut that caused the visible mark. This should improve the final appearance of the smartwatch and help ensure that production units meet the company’s quality expectations.

Despite the delay, the Pebble Round 2 remains available for pre-order at $199. The smartwatch is expected to feature a 1.3-inch e-paper display with support for 64 colors and touch input. One of its biggest selling points is battery life, with Pebble claiming the watch can last around two weeks on a single charge thanks to its energy-efficient display.

However, the Pebble Round 2 will not include a heart rate monitor. That may disappoint some buyers, as health-tracking sensors have become common on many modern smartwatches. Instead, the Round 2 appears to focus on Pebble’s traditional strengths: long battery life, a lightweight watch experience, and a simple display designed for quick glanceable information.

Migicovsky also confirmed that leather straps will be offered in black and brown, giving buyers a more classic styling option when the watch finally arrives.

The latest delay is frustrating for fans waiting for the Pebble Round 2, but the company’s transparent explanation may help reassure customers that the extra time is being used to improve the finished product. If the manufacturing fix goes smoothly, July should mark the beginning of deliveries, with all pre-orders planned to be fulfilled by September.
