Celebrating the 10th Anniversary of “Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie: Rebellion,” a special collaboration between Onkyo and the anime franchise has led to the release of unique true wireless earbuds. Two distinct models have been introduced: the “KANAME Madoka model” and the “AKEMI Homura model.” Each set showcases laser-processed “soul gem” designs on the earpieces and is complemented by eight voice guidance snippets from their respective characters.
An animation production company, Shaft, has crafted and illustrated a captivating package for the earbuds. The ANIMA AOW01, serving as the foundational model, is a fusion between ONKYO’s audio expertise and ANIMA’s distinctive blend of subculture and hi-fi earphones.
These earbuds aren’t just about style; they also boast an impressive array of features. With Bluetooth 5.1 connectivity, an IPX7 water resistance rating, support for AAC/aptX codecs, a built-in MEMS-type microphone, and an ambient sound capturing function, the AOW01 ensures technologically advanced performance. Additionally, wireless charging capabilities are included, and sound quality is meticulously overseen by ONKYO.
The AOW01 pairs with the “ANIMA Studio” application, which extends the functionality of the product, allowing customization of system voices and sound parameters to reflect the user’s preferences. The app is available for both iOS and Android users.
The physical earbud models are available for preview at the ONKYO DIRECT ANIME STORE/Oto-Ani Store 1 in Akihabara. From 11:00 am on Friday, February 16, visitors can experience the sound quality and voiced features firsthand. Orders can be placed via a special QR code in the store.
In addition to the earbuds, fans can purchase themed merchandise such as an “A4 clear file,” “acrylic stand,” “can badge,” and a “wireless charger,” all designed with newly created illustrations. An exclusive “newly illustrated postcard” will be gifted to visitors. Though all items are available through the ONKYO DIRECT mail-order site and the Akihabara store, the can badge will only be sold at the Oto-Ani Store No.1 starting February 16th at 15:00.
“Puella Magi Madoka Magica” has captivated audiences since its television debut in January 2011. With a creative team comprising Director Akiyuki Shimbo, screenwriter Gen Urobuchi, and character designer Ume Aoki, the series portrays a gripping narrative of girls and magical girls navigating a thrilling, uncertain world. It has received widespread praise across various domains.
Following the success of the original series, two recap films were released in 2012, and the entirely new movie, “Rebellion,” arrived in 2013, boasting impressive earnings for a late-night anime film. The next installment, “Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie: Walpurgis no Kaiten,” is eagerly anticipated for release in winter 2024.
