NVIDIA is gearing up for a significant change in its GPU lineup, preparing to phase out the GeForce RTX 4070, 4070 Ti SUPER, and 4070 SUPER models to make way for the upcoming GeForce RTX 5070 series. The decision comes as the company gears up to unveil their next-gen GeForce RTX 50 “Blackwell” Gaming GPUs, which are set to hit the shelves by February 2025.
As NVIDIA shifts its focus to the future, production on several of its high-end RTX 40 GPUs, including models like the RTX 4090, 4090D, and 4080 SUPER, has already started winding down. The latest to join this phase-out are the RTX 4070 series GPUs. Insider reports reveal that production for these models will begin to cease as early as December. The RTX 4070 lineup, which includes the RTX 4070, 4070 Ti SUPER, and 4070 SUPER, remains available in stores for now, unlike the original 4070 Ti and 4080, which were supplanted by their “SUPER” versions.
It appears the RTX 4070 Ti SUPER has been in particularly short supply, with expectations that it will be completely sold out by the end of November. Meanwhile, production for the RTX 4070 SUPER and RTX 4070 is expected to wrap up by late November or early December. NVIDIA plans to continue supplying chips until December, with any remaining inventory expected to clear out by January, perfectly timed for the RTX 50 series launch.
Expectations are that the RTX 4070 Ti SUPER will follow the same discontinuation pace as the 4080 SUPER, with supplies potentially sold out by November’s end. As for the RTX 4070 and 4070 SUPER, limited availability is anticipated in the final quarter of the year, with supplies expected to dwindle compared to the third quarter. The inventory held by AIC brands is likely to deplete by January, and widespread stock in the market is expected to be exhausted soon after.
The timing couldn’t be more strategic, with the holiday season and Black Friday just around the corner. It’s anticipated that a slew of retailer and AIB-specific deals will surface for these models, encouraging customers to make the most of the reductions and clear out existing stock. NVIDIA is set to unveil the successor to the RTX 4070 series in February 2025, with an official debut at CES 2025, where CEO Jensen Huang will likely showcase what’s next for the renowned tech giant.
With all three major GPU manufacturers—NVIDIA, AMD, and Intel—preparing to launch their next-generation products soon, there’s a lot of excitement and innovation on the horizon. Stay tuned for updates as the competition heats up and these industry giants reveal their latest advancements.
