NVIDIA’s upcoming GeForce RTX 5060 “Blackwell” laptop GPU is shaping up to be a significant upgrade over the RTX 4060, based on insights shared by Chinese manufacturer Hasee. During a recent event, Wu Haijun, chairman of Hasee, provided some exciting details about the new generation of NVIDIA GPUs for laptops.
The GeForce RTX 5060 is part of NVIDIA’s Blackwell lineup, which is expected to be the first to support next-gen GDDR7 memory. This upgrade will enhance bandwidth and potentially increase VRAM capacities. According to Wu, the RTX 5060 will consume less power than its predecessor, the RTX 4060, which has a max TGP limit of 140W. The new GPU will reduce this to 115W.
Performance-wise, the RTX 5060 is anticipated to be impressive, especially for thin and light gaming laptops. It is expected to deliver performance comparable to the RTX 4070 Laptop GPU, surpassing it in ray tracing tasks and nearly matching it in rasterization performance. The RTX 50 series will also incorporate advanced technologies such as next-gen DLSS to further enhance performance over the current Ada series.
Previous details suggest that the RTX 5060, codenamed GN22-X4, will feature the GB206 GPU die paired with 8 GB of GDDR7 memory, likely running at 28 Gbps speeds. This makes the RTX 5060 a promising option for mainstream gaming laptops, building on the popularity of its predecessors like the RTX 3060, RTX 4060, RTX 2060, and GTX 1060, which are among the top-used video cards according to Steam’s Hardware Survey.
The RTX 4060 Laptop GPU is currently popular in a range of budget and mainstream gaming laptops, and it faces little competition from AMD and Intel in the same segment. If these reports hold true, NVIDIA may continue to dominate the mainstream laptop GPU market with the RTX 5060.
NVIDIA is expected to introduce the GeForce RTX 50 “Blackwell” GPUs at CES 2025, with a laptop launch anticipated in the first half of 2025, offering a notable upgrade over the RTX 40 series.
Here is a preliminary lineup of the GeForce RTX 50 “Blackwell” Laptop GPUs:
– RTX 5090: GN22-X11, 16 GB GDDR7
– RTX 5080 Ti: GN22-X9, 16 GB GDDR7
– RTX 5080: GN22-X7, 12 GB GDDR7
– RTX 5070: GN22-X6, 8 GB GDDR7
– RTX 5060: GN22-X4, 8 GB GDDR7
