Recent shipping records have reportedly shed light on the specifications of the anticipated Nintendo Switch successor, the Nintendo Switch 2. According to these records, the new gaming console is expected to feature significant enhancements in RAM, storage capacity, and overall size, signaling a substantial leap from its predecessor.
The upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 is said to boast 12 GB of RAM, which is a notable rise from the original model’s 4 GB. It is suggested that the console will be equipped with two 6 GB LPDDR5X modules from Micron, though there is some speculation about whether the final product will feature LPDDR5 or LPDDR5X RAM. With speeds up to 7,500 MT/s, gamers could expect smoother performance and better multitasking capabilities.
Storage is another area where the Switch 2 seems set to impress, with a rumored 256 GB of UFS 3.1 flash storage. Such an improvement would not only provide more space for games and downloads but also enhance readout speeds to an impressive 2,100 MB/s. If true, this would be a dramatic improvement over the original Nintendo Switch’s 32 GB storage, with its 300 MB/s speed.
The physical dimensions of the Nintendo Switch 2 have also been a topic of interest. The device is reported to measure 206 x 115 x 14 mm, exclusive of the Joy-Cons, suggesting a larger form factor than the current model. Additionally, the new switch is expected to feature a built-in microphone, enhancing its usability for in-game communication or other interactive activities.
One particularly interesting rumor is that the Joy-Con controllers will attach magnetically to the Switch 2, which could indicate a redesign of these peripherals offering a more secure and user-friendly connection mechanism.
While the president of Nintendo, Shuntaro Furukawa, has indicated that the new console could be anticipated before March 2025, the official specifications and features are yet to be confirmed. In the meantime, the Switch OLED model, which launched in 2021, continues to be Nintendo’s premium handheld gaming option currently available to consumers.
The unearthing of these details from shipping and customs records has sparked discussions among gaming communities and has provided eager fans with a glimpse into what the future might hold for the popular Nintendo console series. With enhanced specs and new features, the Nintendo Switch 2 is poised to be another hit for the company, successfully continuing its legacy in the gaming industry.
