Nintendo is joining a growing list of manufacturers adjusting prices as the global memory crisis continues to push production costs higher. After months of price increases across the tech industry—and even some delayed hardware launches—Nintendo has now confirmed new pricing changes that affect both the Nintendo Switch 2 and older Switch models, along with subscription costs for Nintendo Switch Online in Japan.
Nintendo Switch 2 price increases begin in Japan first
The most immediate changes arrive in Japan. Starting May 25, 2026, the Japanese-language Nintendo Switch 2 will rise from ¥49,980 to ¥59,980. That’s a ¥10,000 increase, making it one of the most significant price jumps Nintendo has announced in recent years.
Nintendo also clarified that the multi-language Nintendo Switch 2 model sold via My Nintendo Store will keep its current price for the time being, offering at least one option that avoids an immediate increase—at least for now.
Older Nintendo Switch models are also getting more expensive
It isn’t just the Switch 2 being affected. Nintendo’s updated pricing in Japan also includes increases across the existing Switch family:
The Nintendo Switch OLED model will increase from ¥37,980 to ¥47,980.
The standard Nintendo Switch will move from ¥32,978 to ¥43,980.
The Nintendo Switch Lite will rise from ¥21,978 to ¥29,980.
These changes mean that buyers in Japan will pay notably more across the board, whether they’re upgrading to the newest console or choosing a more budget-friendly Switch model.
Nintendo confirms Switch 2 price hikes for the US, Canada, and Europe
Nintendo also announced that Switch 2 pricing is going up in multiple regions outside Japan, including the United States, Canada, and Europe.
In the United States, the Nintendo Switch 2 will increase from $449.99 to $499.99 starting September 1, 2026.
In Canada, the console will rise from $629.99 to $679.99.
In Europe, the My Nintendo Store price will move from €469.99 to €499.99.
For anyone planning to buy the Switch 2 later in 2026, these updated prices may influence when to purchase, especially with the US increase arriving on September 1.
Nintendo Switch Online subscription prices rise in Japan
The pricing changes extend beyond hardware. Nintendo Switch Online membership fees are also increasing in Japan beginning July 1, 2026, with higher costs across nearly every plan.
The standard individual 12-month Nintendo Switch Online membership will go from ¥2,400 to ¥3,000.
The family plan will increase from ¥4,500 to ¥5,800.
Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack also gets a price increase in Japan
Nintendo’s premium subscription tier is also getting more expensive:
The individual yearly Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership will rise from ¥4,900 to ¥5,900.
The family plan will increase from ¥8,900 to ¥9,900.
With both console prices and subscription costs increasing, Nintendo’s latest moves show how the ongoing memory crisis is continuing to reshape pricing across gaming hardware and services worldwide.
