Next Apple TV Could Bring Voice Control to the Box and Sound to the Remote

Apple TV 4K Upgrade Could Bring Built-In Siri Microphones and a Remote That’s Easier to Find

Apple may be preparing one of its most practical Apple TV 4K upgrades in years. The next version of the streaming device is reportedly being tested with built-in microphones, allowing users to speak directly to Siri without picking up the remote. Apple has also tested a redesigned Siri Remote with an integrated speaker, making it easier to locate when it disappears between couch cushions or gets misplaced around the room.

The current Apple TV 4K already supports Siri voice commands, but users typically need to press the Siri button on the remote or rely on a paired HomePod. Adding microphones directly to the Apple TV box could make the experience feel more like using a smart speaker or smart display. Users may be able to ask Siri to open apps, search for movies, control playback, adjust smart home devices, or check information from across the room.

The possible speaker upgrade for the Siri Remote could be just as useful. Losing the Apple TV remote is a common frustration, and while Apple already offers limited ways to help find it, a built-in speaker would make the feature far more effective. Instead of only relying on proximity guidance, users could trigger a sound from the remote and quickly track it down.

A new Apple TV 4K is expected to be announced at Apple’s “Welcome Home” event on October 13. The device may appear alongside a refreshed HomePod mini 2 and a new smart display that could be called HomeView or HomePad. Reports suggest the Apple TV 4K and HomePod mini 2 may go on sale around October 30, while the smart display could arrive later in November.

The Apple TV 4K has not received a hardware update since 2022, so a refresh would make sense. In addition to the rumored microphone and remote changes, the next model may feature a faster A19 chip. That would give the streaming box more power for smoother performance, improved gaming, and support for Apple’s upcoming Siri and AI-focused features.

If these upgrades make it into the final product, the next Apple TV 4K could become a more capable entertainment and smart home hub. Built-in Siri microphones would make hands-free control more natural, while a speaker-equipped remote would solve one of the most annoying everyday problems for Apple TV users.
