New Action-Adventure RPG Soars on Steam with 400+ “Very Positive” Reviews at Launch

War has torn the fictional nation of Hadea apart, and Hell is Us drops you right in the middle of it. This semi-open world action-adventure blends exploration, melee combat, and psychological horror to deliver an experience that prizes intuition over waypoints and discovery over hand-holding.

Released worldwide on September 4, 2025 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, Hell is Us stands out for its stripped-back HUD, bold “find it yourself” philosophy, and mature storytelling. Developed by Rogue Factor and published by Nacon, it’s steadily climbing the Steam charts as players gravitate toward its atmospheric world and exploration-first design.

You play as Rémi, a soldier navigating Hadea’s civil war while confronting eerie supernatural entities known as Hollow Walkers. Combat emphasizes measured, tactical engagements rather than punishing “souls-like” loops. You’ll rely on a suite of melee weapons and the KAPI drone for distractions and special attacks, but the real challenge comes from reading your surroundings, picking up environmental clues, and piecing together objectives without a checklist.

The game’s creative direction was led by Jonathan Jacques-Belletête, known for his work on Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Influences include the film Annihilation and Jeff VanderMeer’s Southern Reach Trilogy, and that inspiration shows in the game’s unsettling tone and organic storytelling. A team of roughly 55 developers spent over five years shaping an experience where exploration, atmosphere, and consequence take center stage.

On Steam, Hell is Us recorded an all-time peak of about 3,984 concurrent players at launch, with around 1,555 players shortly afterward. It requires a 64-bit system and solid hardware to run smoothly. In addition to the Standard Edition, a Digital Deluxe Edition offers exclusive in-game rewards and up to 48 hours of early access. The PC version is available for $49.99.

If you’re drawn to games that trust your instincts, reward curiosity, and build tension through world design rather than constant markers, Hell is Us is built for you.
