Netflix Expands Redesigned Mobile App and Kids Gaming Hub Across Asia-Pacific
Netflix is pushing deeper into mobile entertainment and gaming as it looks to make its platform more engaging for viewers of all ages. During its recent APAC Product Innovation Showcase, the streaming giant shared new updates for its redesigned mobile app and revealed fresh plans for Netflix Playground, its child-focused gaming space.
The company is continuing the rollout of its revamped mobile experience across Asia-Pacific. After launching the updated app in Australia, New Zealand, the Philippines, India, and Malaysia earlier this year, Netflix is preparing to bring the new design to South Korea and Japan in July. More markets in the region are expected to follow.
One of the biggest features in the redesigned Netflix app is Clips, a vertical short-form video feed built for quick viewing. The feature gives users a faster way to discover scenes, highlights, and moments from Netflix shows and films without needing to start a full episode or movie.
With short-form video continuing to dominate mobile habits, Netflix is clearly aiming to make content discovery feel more immediate and familiar. Clips can help users sample a comedy, drama, reality show, documentary, or film in seconds, potentially encouraging them to watch the full title later.
Netflix is also planning to test themed Clip collections. Instead of only scrolling through random short videos, users may soon see curated groups based on moods, genres, and interests. These collections could include popular reality TV scenes, behind-the-scenes moments, podcast highlights, or standout clips from fan-favorite series and movies.
The move reflects Netflix’s broader strategy to keep viewers engaged inside its app, especially during short breaks when they may not have time for longer content. By combining quick entertainment with personalized discovery, Netflix is making its mobile app more competitive in a world where users increasingly expect fast, scrollable video experiences.
Gaming is another major part of Netflix’s growth plan. The company confirmed that it is expanding Netflix Playground, a gaming hub created specifically for children. The latest addition will be based on KPop Demon Hunters, the hit animated musical that has become one of Netflix’s most successful family titles.
The new KPop Demon Hunters experience will include six mini-games, giving young fans a chance to interact with characters, music, and story elements from the film. This expansion is designed to turn a popular movie into a more interactive entertainment experience, helping children stay connected to the world of the film beyond watching it.
KPop Demon Hunters has already proven to be a massive success for Netflix, reaching more than 518 million views in its first six months. With that kind of audience response, it makes sense for Netflix to build more content around the title and offer families new ways to engage with it.
Netflix Playground first launched in April in markets such as the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. Its continued expansion suggests Netflix sees gaming as a long-term opportunity, particularly for younger audiences and family subscribers.
By combining a more dynamic mobile app, short-form video discovery, and interactive games for children, Netflix is working to become more than just a place to stream movies and TV shows. The company is building a broader entertainment ecosystem designed to keep users watching, playing, and discovering new content across devices.
