NanoPi R3S Debuts as Budget-Friendly Single-Board Computer, Featuring Optional Metal Case

FriendlyElec has introduced a new and budget-friendly single-board computer (SBC), the NanoPi R3S, priced at under $50. Starting at just $30, this SBC features a Rockchip RK3566 chipset and 2 GB of LPDDR4X RAM.

The NanoPi R3S is an upgrade over the NanoPi R2S Plus, which was released over six months ago and is currently priced around $54.99. The previous model, the NanoPi R2S Plus, utilized a Rockchip RK3328 chipset and included 1 GB of DDR4 RAM, an M.2 E-Key, two Gigabit Ethernet connections, and two USB ports, all compactly integrated on a 58 x 58 mm board.

In comparison, the NanoPi R3S measures slightly smaller at 57 x 57 mm and features the Rockchip RK3566, which provides four ARM Cortex-A55 CPU cores, a Mali-G52 MP2 GPU, and an AI accelerator capable of delivering up to 0.8 TOPS. It also comes with 2 GB of LPDDR4X RAM, marking a significant improvement over its predecessor.

The NanoPi R3S is available starting at $30, which includes RAM but no storage. For those needing more, there is an option to add 32 GB of eMMC flash storage for an additional $5, as well as a metal case, also for an extra $5. The SBC comes equipped with various ports, including:

– Two Gigabit Ethernet ports (RTL8211F LAN, RTL8111H WAN)
– A MicroSD card reader
– A MIPI-DSI connector
– An RTC connector
– A UART Debug connector
– A USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A port
– A USB Type-C port for data and 5V/2A power input
