Imagineer and ToyBox Inc. are gearing up to captivate mystery enthusiasts with their upcoming visual novel, Mystery Walk. Scheduled to debut later this year on the Nintendo Switch in Japan, this enthralling game invites players into a captivating world where secrets linger just beneath the surface.
Set against the picturesque backdrop of Narumisawa, a charming fictional summer resort, Mystery Walk will lead players through a multi-layered narrative, the first in a planned trilogy of dramas. The storyline is a compelling blend of past and present, weaving a tale that uncovers the truths of an unsolved mystery dating back three decades.
Central to this narrative is the haunting Sanmeiso Incident, or the Narumisawa Landscape Painter Murder Case. Thirty years prior, the renowned artist Uchida Suiryu met a mysterious end near a pond at Narumisawa’s pavilion. Although there was an investigation, the case closed abruptly with the suspect’s death, leaving many questions unanswered.
Fast forward to the present, and we join Ayame Minato, a young adept in criminal psychology, and her seminar members as they dive into the aged mystery as part of their research. As they peel back layers of the past, surprising truths come to light, revealing the complex tapestry of hearts hidden behind cheerful facades.
Mystery Walk promises not only a gripping story but also fully-voiced dialogue, featuring talented voice actors, including a few unexpected casting choices that are sure to delight fans. The game’s developers hope players will revel in the immersive experience of unraveling this enigmatic tale.
For those keen on exploring uncharted narratives, Mystery Walk is a fresh adventure waiting to be discovered, adding a touch of intrigue to the world of visual novels. Keep an eye out for its Japanese release, with plans to expand further in 2024.
