Dlala Studios Announces Murals, a Twisted Fairytale Action-Adventure Game Coming to PC in 2027
Dlala Studios, the team behind Disney Illusion Island, has revealed its next project: Murals, a hand-painted isometric action-adventure game set inside a darkly reimagined fairytale world. The game is currently in development for Windows PC and is planned for release on Steam sometime in 2027.
Murals takes familiar storybook legends and flips them into something strange, dangerous, and unpredictable. This is not the fairytale world players may remember from childhood. Sleeping Beauty can’t sleep, Rapunzel’s hair has become a threat, and Rumpelstiltskin appears to have developed a dramatic obsession with theater. The result is a fantasy adventure filled with twisted humor, unsettling charm, and chaotic action.
The story begins as players awaken inside a mysterious fairytale castle with no memory of who they are or how they arrived there. Their only companion is Loaf, a living sketch who quickly reveals that escape will not be simple. Even worse, terrifying creatures known as The Distorted have begun to appear, turning the castle and its surrounding worlds into a hostile, warped nightmare.
Murals blends melee and ranged combat with a variety of unusual weapons. Players can fight using talking swords, dwarven gloves, magical dragon blasters, and other strange tools as they explore crooked castles, deceptive forests, living mazes, and more. The game’s combat appears designed around experimentation, encouraging players to mix weapons and abilities to create their own style of chaos.
A key part of that customization comes from Eeries, powerful trinkets that can dramatically alter how battles unfold. These upgrades add strange and magical effects to the player’s arsenal, such as poison-enhanced attacks or lightning-infused defenses. Players will be able to discover these odd enhancements through Magic Dave’s Vending Machine of Delights, a feature that hints at the game’s quirky personality and unpredictable design.
Throughout the journey, players will face distorted versions of legendary fairytale figures while moving closer to a final confrontation with The Creator. Described as calm, artistic, and extremely dangerous, The Creator is not just another villain waiting at the end of the road. He is watching the player’s progress, and that attention may become more threatening as the adventure continues.
Murals also promises a fully voiced cast, bringing its strange and twisted fairytale characters to life with personality and flair. The game leans into the idea of familiar fables being transformed into something almost unrecognizable, giving players a world that feels both nostalgic and completely new.
The atmosphere will be supported by a fully orchestrated original score from award-winning composer David Housden. With its hand-painted art style, offbeat humor, storybook horror, and action-focused gameplay, Murals is shaping up to be one of the more distinctive indie action-adventure games to watch ahead of its 2027 PC release.
